Oh the loudness!

So I finally got around to seeing The Most Serene Republic, and boy are they really everything I was expecting and then some. Considering I've heard nothing but positivity about their live show my expectations were quite high. I was completely blown away (and not just by the volume).

The venue was The Pyramid Cabaret, which is actually a lot nicer than it sounds. Opening was In-Flight Safety from Halifax, who seem to be following in the footsteps of Pilate... who are also following in the footsteps of Coldplay. Nothing really noteworthy.

Next up was The Acorn, which collectively was very drunk. We missed the first of their set due to hunger, but it was worth it for a chili burger, a "handful" (I'm not kidding) of fries, and an artificial banana flavoured milkshake. Acorn reminded me a bit of Sam Roberts in a way, but it could've just been the beard. Very cool and energetic band though.

Finally The Most Serene Republic took the stage, and literally FILLED it. 7 members in all, and I'm amazed they didn't knock more stuff over. At this point though, the show got VERY LOUD which you couldn't notice for a while as it was also VERY GOOD. Super busy sound, not many hooks, but something I'd probably listen to a lot if they could get the live energy onto a CD somehow. Frankly their CD didn't really impress me, but like everyones been telling me, these guys are a live band. You better believe it.

I also picked up an EP they had on sale, called Phages. Haven't had the chance to listen to it, but I'll try to get it around to everyone if it's as good as the show was.

So, that's probably the only thing worth writing about for the next week or so. 'Til next time, "It's a house of Cosbys... a house of Cosbys".

face Not so tired.

You forgot to mention the meter! Most Serene's songs are soo hard for my brain to comprehend, cuz it's mostly in odd meters... I heard some last night that was in 5/8, 7/8, and even 11/8 I think. They change a lot too. It's really cool, but so hard to move around to. My brain hurt (as well as my ears)! :P

Hmm, I'm still a little concerned about putting everything up for download, since it's so new and all. How about anyone wanting a listen, just add zimmatic@hotmail.com/gmail.com or send me an email.
